Rita and Whatsit
by Jean-Philippe Arrou-Vignod
Age Range: Under_5
One of a lovely series of books about an irresistible duo. Rita is a rather determined, cross and bossy little girl, and Whatsit, a cheeky, playful and philosophical dog. In this, the first in the series, it’s Rita's birthday but she is sulking. Suddenly one of her presents begins leaping into the air. After a chase, she unwraps a wriggling dog. Rita tries to order it about, and struggles to find a suitable name, but when she decides on Whatsit, the dog responds and the two become firm friends.
Jean-Philippe Arrou-Vignod’s delightful dialogue between the two friends is accompanied by charming, minimalistic illustrations by Olivier Tallec, full of detail and wit.
The other titles in the series are - Christmas with Rita and Whatsit, Rita and Whatsit at the Beach, Rita and Whatsit at School, Rita and Whatsit's New Friend and Rita and Whatsit go on a Picnic
