‘We need the literature of other countries to expand our
horizons and stimulate our ideas. Without it, we are not only
diminished, we are starved’

Upside-Down Reader (The)
by Wilhelm Gruber
Age Range: 6-8
Tina has just started school and is very possessive about her books and backpack.
Her younger brother Tim still needs to wait a year before going to school,
although he is eager to learn to read despite his sister’s reluctance to teach him.
Dad suggests that Tim can sit opposite his sister at the table while she is doing
her homework. This way, and without anyone’s knowledge, Tim learns to read
upside down and then surprises everyone when they discover his precocious
talent. When grandma comes to visit she takes the responsibility of teaching Tim
to read properly.
This is an amusing ‘Easy to Read’ story ideal for children who are just starting to develop an interest in reading. The bright colourful illustrations on each page make the story easy to understand as well as creating a pleasurable reading experience for any young child.
