Serpent Gift (The) Shamer Chronicles Book 3
by Lene Kaaberbol
Age Range: 12+
In The Serpent Gift, the third book from the ‘Shamer Chronicles’, Dina discovers that as well as having the shamer’s gift, she has inherited a far more terrifying gift – the Serpent’s gift for lie and illusion – from her father, a Blackmaster. When he comes to claim his daughter, Dina and her family are catapulted into a reckless flight from their home. Her brother Davin and Nico are also in desperate danger, held in the Sagisburg by Arthos Draconis, a relative of Drakon, and Dina is finally forced to use the gift inherited from her father in order to save them.
Award-winning Danish author Lene Kaaberbøl is an excellent storyteller and has translated her own work into effortless English. The Shamer novels have created an exciting world, on the edge of civilisation, magic and mystery as they follow the lives of the Tonerre family who are constantly pitched into danger and adventure. The harsh life of the Highlands with its rival clans and villains shows a world where those that manipulate the truth are afraid of the gifted few that can see the truth and are able to expose them.
First published in English over fifteen years ago it’s fantastic to see them back in print again in a brand new edition by Pushkin Children’s.
Other titles in ‘The Shamer Chronicles’ (2019) are: The Shamer’s Daughter; The Shamer’s Signet; The Shamer’s War. Further books by Kaaberbøl available in English are: Silverhorse (2008); Midnight (2009) Macmillan; the 'Wildwitch' series – Wildwitch Wildfire; Wildwitch Oblivion; Wildwitch Life Stealer and Wildwitch Bloodling.
