‘We need the literature of other countries to expand our
horizons and stimulate our ideas. Without it, we are not only
diminished, we are starved’

A surfer picks up his board and jumps in his car. He’s off to the beach to ride the waves. Out on the open road surely nothing can stop him making it to the sea as planned? Along the way, he picks up a variety of strange hitchhikers from a deep-sea diver who's rushing to his wedding, a bored alligator, a wanted criminal, a clever policewoman and a scared little girl all dressed.
Brazilian author, illustrator and graphic designer Guilherme Karsten has created a delightfully funny and quirky picture book with rhyming text. The repetitive elements in the verse will make readers chuckle as each passenger is added to the surfer’s very overcrowded car. He starts out cheerfully enough but gradually his mood changes as he experiences a range of emotions on his journey from being surprised, anxious, baffled, grumpy, irritated, speedy and finally turning into a very worried surfer! The rich block colour illustrations combined with the funny verse make this a book that children will want to read it again and again.
