‘We need the literature of other countries to expand our
horizons and stimulate our ideas. Without it, we are not only
diminished, we are starved’
(The Times, Magnus Linklater 29/06/05)
by Annermarie van Haeringen
Age Range: Under_5
A cheeky baby elephant describes his interaction with his mother – “My mama loves playing with me and my cars. I like that, as long as mama tidies up the cars afterwards.” Baby elephant thinks his mama always looks nice and he sometimes tries to make mama’s dress even prettier – the illustration shows him cutting lines in the bottom of Mama’s brightly coloured dress!
My Mama by Dutch author/illustrator Annemarie van Haeringen, translated by Bill Nagelkerke, is a simple story of a mother/child relationship with gorgeous expressive pen and ink and watercolour illustrations that complement the chatty humour of the narrator.
