Tales from the Hidden Valley: Under the Water
by Carles Porta
Age Range: 6-8
It is summer in the hidden valley and the inhabitants are getting ready to celebrate ‘Dragon’s Day’. According to legend, in the deepest part of the lake lives a terrible dragon. If it is woken up it emerges breathing fire so fierce that no one is safe. Every Dragon’s Day a strange being, who looks like a mermaid, also emerges from the lake. Her name is Aqua. When things start to go missing Yula, Sara and Ticky become concerned and are determined to find out who the culprit is. On their search, they discover the secret entrance to a tunnel and wander deep inside. Will they be able to evade the Dragon who lurks beneath the lake before the party begins?
A fourth book in the appealing, quirky tales about the hidden valley and its endearingly curious inhabitants by Spanish author/illustrator Carles Porta, translated by Lawrence Schimel. With a whimsical style of storytelling, gorgeous, lively illustrations and unusual characters, this is a joy to read.
