When It Rains
by Rassi Narika
Age Range: Under_5
Kira is extremely bored. Itís been raining for days and sheís tired of doing nothing. It makes her wonder why it has to rain and why there are so many things you canít do when it rains. When her best friends Ana and Ilo surprise her by asking her out to play during another downpour, Kira discovers that itís possible to have fun outside when it rains: whether itís watching a duck swimming with her ducklings, the array of brightly coloured umbrellas on the streets or learning about lightning. Finally, thereís the welcome warmth from a hot bath when she gets home.
Indonesian author/illustrator Rassi Narika has created a charming picture book, translated by Ikhda Ayuning Maharsi Degoul and Emma Daiían Wright, with its delightfully simplistic watercolour artwork showing a childís wonder and discovery about rain.
