Kaya's Heart Song
by Diwa Tharan Sanders
Age Range: Under_5
Kaya asks her mother what she is singing. “That was my heart song. Happy hearts have their own songs” she replies. “If you have a heart song, anything is possible. Even magic!” When Kaya says that she doesn’t know her heart song Mama tells her she has to learn to listen for it. So Kaya embarks on a quest to find her heart song and her search takes her on an enchanting journey deep into the jungle where she discovers a beautiful abandoned carousel. Can Kaya discover her heart song to make it turn again?
Kaya’s Heart Song is a charming, thoughtful story by Diwa Tharan Sanders, a Malaysian author of Indian-Filipino heritage. Sanders tale is grounded in the principles of mindfulness and from her love and inspiration of the beauty and mystery of nature.
Argentinian artist Nerina Canzi’s illustrations zing with life. They are full to bursting with a vibrant, lush colour palette with the pictures mirroring the text to encourage mindfulness with yoga poses depicted throughout together with Kaya’s wonderful magical world.
A gentle, subtle picture book with a lovely message that will help to encourage and show children the importance of valuing their dreams, believe in their own imagination as well as to observe the world around them and, most importantly of all, to give them time to just be.
At the back of the book there is some helpful information about Mindfulness too.
