Don't Look Under the Bed!
by Angelika Glitz
Age Range: 6-8
Every child is scared of that ‘imaginary’ monster that lives under the bed and Tom
is no exception. Even though he endeavours to fall asleep, strange noises prevent
him from doing so. When his mum comes to say good night, Tom shares his fears
with her, but she has an explanation for everything! The vroooommmm noise is
coming from the cars outside, while the rattle, rattle noise comes from the wind
and as for the big shadows on the wall, there is also an explanation for that too.
Despite his mum’s attempts to reassure him, Tom remains unhappy and tells her
that she has forgotten to look under the bed where she is in for a surprise!
This funny story has filmic qualities with touches of action and suspense. The mum and son relationship is delightful and children will be amused by the incidents that take place and the double-spread illustration by Imke Sönnichsen brings this story alive.
