Megalopolis: And the Visitor From Outer Space
by Clea Dieudonne
Age Range: Under_5
An alien has arrived from outer space to explore the many wonders of Megalopolis. After he lands his spaceship on a rooftop the visitor is met by the mayor of this magnificent city and the townspeople throw a welcome party in his honour.
The alien is kept busy because there is lots to explore and activities to take part in, including a game of hide-and-seek in the Chinese Gardens where the extra-terrestrial guest has lots of fun spotting council members hiding in the bushes and among the water lilies; a visit to the zoo, where he has a few jokes with the giraffes, a night at the opera and a chance meeting with a mermaid!
Megalopolis is a story three metres long with a fold-out design that is navigated vertically rather than read from left to right. Each panel folds out to reveal a new part of the story and a new section of the city. Including 118 buildings, 10 factories, 514 inhabitants, 51 cars, 20 birds, 17 species of flowers, 94 cakes and even eight ghosts there is plenty to explore and discover. Cléa Deudonné has created a wonderful panoramic adventure teaming with intricate detail and delightful humorous nonsense text. That is sure to provide hours of entertainment.
