Little Big Boubo
by Beatrice Alemagna
Age Range: Under_5
Meet Boubo. He’s not a baby anymore and he can prove it because he can ride a bike, has four big teeth and only needs one cushion at the restaurant. Boubo is the biggest and he’s sure of it.
This is a lovely picture book about growing up by Beatrice Alemagne, a celebrated author and illustrator in many parts of Europe and the Far East. If you are already a fan of her ‘Little Bug’ series published in English then her unique style in Little Big Boubo, is sure to become a firm favourite too.
Alemagne’s work is always so rich in detail. The collage style, often through the use of a variety of mediums, shows the many different textures and patterns that she uses to create the illustrations. Boubo’s character is instantly endearing and Alemagne uses perspective to accentuate his feeling of ‘bigness’ and sense of growth, but when he is shown against his mother who fills up the page it highlights just how small Boubo really is. Little Big Boubo is full of charm and will make an ideal book to read at bedtime.
Other titles in English by Alemagne and published by Phaidon are: Bugs in a Blanket, The Bug Next Door, Bugs in the Garden and Bugs at Christmas.
