Findus Plants Meatballs
by Sven Nordqvist
Age Range: 6-8
It is a beautiful spring morning and Farmer Pettson and Findus, (his talking cat in the green stripy dungarees), decide it’s time to sow vegetables and plant potatoes in the vegetable patch. Findus is intrigued about how plants grow and wants to know if he plants one of his meatballs will it grow too? He sets to work planting his meatball and creating a neat little fence around it while Pettson works on the vegetable plot. As ever with Pettson and Findus things don’t go according to plan. First the chickens create havoc digging up all the seeds and potato plants as well as Findus’ precious meatball; then there is Neighbour Gustavsson’s pig that tramples all over the newly planted vegetable patch and finally a herd of cows cause mayhem despite a plan devised by Pettson that requires Findus to be night watchman.
More comedy abounds from award-winning Swedish author and illustrator Sven Nordqvist in this latest ‘Findus’ title to be translated into English by Hawthorn Press. The delightful eccentricities in the characterisation, humour in the conversations between Findus and Pettson and the expressive illustrations of Findus’ body language all help to create another delightful ‘Findus’ tale.
This is one of a series of nine books about Pettson and Findus. Six other titles have been published in English that include: Findus and the Fox, Findus at Christmas Findus Goes Camping, Findus Moves Out, Pancakes for Findus and When Findus was Little and Disappeared.
