‘We need the literature of other countries to expand our
horizons and stimulate our ideas. Without it, we are not only
diminished, we are starved’

For the Love of Books: A Book Lover's Guide For Those Who Don't Much Like to Read
by Françoize Boucher
Age Range: 9-11
It says it all in the title – ‘A Book Lover’s Guide for those who don’t much like to read’. Filled with completely ridiculous tips and daft advice, French author, Francoize Boucher’s hilarious comic-style book about reading is a riot. There is advice on how to read books you don't like reading; how to explore all the countries in the world without polluting the planet and if you have trouble sleeping the suggested title to lure you into a pleasant slumber is the ‘Adventures of a Lettuce Leaf’! There is good news too; books never break down, you don’t have to read books everyone else likes, you are never likely to lose the remote control with a book and it will never catch a terrible virus like your computer.
This is a completely wacky book that children (and adults) will love. It’s entertaining, engaging and somehow makes perfect sense. The black and white illustrations are hilarious and together with the wonderful tongue-in-cheek humour it cannot fail to captivate even the most reluctant of readers.
