I am Blop!
by Herve Tullet
Age Range: Under_5
What is a Blop? Children will be immersed in the world of blops when they discover this wacky creation by Hervé Tullet. I am Blop! is another in a long line of innovative creations from this French author and illustrator. Here you will find blops of all different sizes, shapes and colours. There is a black blop, a white blop, a very big and a very small blop. Blops can be discovered by looking into a mirror or new colours can be created by merging blops such as yellow and blue or yellow and pink. Then there is finding a blop, the blop family, blops in the classroom and in the playground. Blops can be beautiful and elegant or a sick and broken. They can have a bump or be invisible. There are blops in flower, blop animals, blops in the countryside and in the city. In fact there are blops absolutely everywhere!
As well as the fun element of this book, the clever concepts teach children about mixing colours and opposites. At the back of the book there is a double-page spread of questions for children to answer. What do blops eat? What do they do all day and all night?’ Do blops wash? Can a blop get into mischief? Are blops friendly? Where do blops live? To discover the answers children will need to immerse themselves in the pages in order to discover the wonderful world of blops, although there is a danger that they will start encountering blops everywhere! An unusual shaped book with punch-out pages at the end that will enhance the fun.
