‘We need the literature of other countries to expand our
horizons and stimulate our ideas. Without it, we are not only
diminished, we are starved’
(The Times, Magnus Linklater 29/06/05)
by Stephanie Blake
Age Range: Under_5
A second delightful picture book from Stephanie Blake about Simon the little rabbit following on from the hilarious Poo Bum published in 2012.
When a new baby rabbit arrives home from hospital Simon is definitely not impressed. “When is that stupid baby going back to the hospital” he asks his parents. They tell him that the baby is his little brother and that he is here to stay. This doesn’t go down well with Simon and he starts to worry about all sorts of things – ‘he’s been here for three whole days already’ and ‘what if he stays forever?’
Although not as funny as Poo Bum, this is a lovely tale about the concerns of a young child when a new sibling arrives. In a gentle humorous way it deals with family relationships and the fear and anxiety of the first older child. This is an excellent read-aloud book with bold, bright colour illustrations.
