Will You Still Love Me If ...?
by Catherine Leblanc
Age Range: Under_5
Little Bear is worried; will his mum be angry with him because he has torn his jacket while playing? He asks her ‘Do you still love me? To which his mum replies that of course she does. Little Bear then begins to ask his mother a series of questions all aimed at testing his mother’s love – will his mother still love him if he tears all his clothes, if he were ugly and green and covered in bugs or if he stopped loving her? His mum’s reply is always the same, but Little Bear continues to worry.
This is a charming book by French author Catherine Leblanc accompanied by expressive illustrations by Eve Tharlet. Little Bear asks some difficult questions that are not always easy for his mother to answer, such as about death and the arrival of another sibling; the sort of questions that young children are prone to ask their parents. The author deals with these issues sensitively maintaining the reassurance of a mother’s love.
