Monster Diaries (The)
by Luciano Saracino
Age Range: 6-8
The Federation of Fright have decided to hold a competition to find the Grisliest Ghoul because it has come to their attention that human children have run out of nightmares and are not being scared enough. A new ‘Focus on Fear’ campaign has been launched which will study diary entries to find the most frightening terror tactics. Open to all scary monsters the winner will be presented with the Poisoned Chalice and a Monster Medal. The Monster Diaries introduces some of the most weird and memorable monsters from myths and legends and entries are received from a variety of ghouls including a ghost, werewolf, mummy, Dracula and an alien giving an insight into what they really do all day!
The Werewolf is obsessed with going to the barber, Dracula hates going to the dentist and the Crazy Scientist has to drink honey tea to sooth his throat after two hours of evil laughing. The problem is though, that none of them seem particularly scary; so who will be the winner of the competition?
This witty tale by Argentinian author Luciano Sacracino and award-winning illustrator Polly Bernatene will have children giggling at the feebleness of some of the supposedly scariest monsters.
