Game of Light (The)
by Herve Tullet
Age Range: Under_5
This highly innovative board book from French author/illustrator Hervé Tullet is great for stimulating babies’ senses of touch and sight, as well as having the potential to involve and entertain the whole family. Its eight simple board pages each feature a range of die-cut holes in the shapes of stars, petals and clouds.
This already presents some tactile interest for little fingers, but as darkness falls, shine a torch through each page and the book truly comes to life. Boats bob across your walls, fish swim by and a shooting star flies across the ceiling. As babies become toddlers, and night-time fears become a common occurrence, this playful book might prove an ideal way of reducing the sense that the dark is something to be feared, by creating a sense of anticipation, excitement and wonder at bedtime. Others books in the ‘Let’s Play Games’ series are The Game of Let’s Go, The Game of Finger Worms, The Game of Mix and Match, The Game of Mix-up Art and The Game of Mix-up Patterns.
