‘We need the literature of other countries to expand our

diminished, we are starved’

Babar's World Tour
by Laurent Brunhoff
Age Range: 6-8
“We are taking you around the world” Babar announces to his family. This is an adventure they will never forget as they embark on a whirl-wind tour visiting different countries around the globe. Equipped with a library and language CDs they head off in their plane Elephant One. Their first stop is Italy where they visit Rome and Venice and learn how to say “Hallo”, “Buon giorno!” Then they visit Germany, Russia, Spain, India, Japan and Thailand. They visit ancient sites too, such as Angkor in Cambodia, an Aztec pyramid in Mexico, Anasazi cliff houses in the American South West and Machu in Peru. They also walk in the Andes Mountains and visit Antarctica before finally heading home stopping off in Paris on the way.
In each place they learn to say words in that language as well as finding out about the country. An ideal book for children who will be able to follow their favourite characters as they globe-trot around the world giving them a glimpse of the diversity of places and cultures as well as learning a few words of different languages.
Created by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931 from an original bedtime story by his wife, Babar has lived on through his son Laurent de Brunhoff who has kept his spirit alive for more than 50 years. Building on the original framework he has created many new and exciting adventures for the elephant family.
