Town Mouse & the Country Mouse (The)
by Mimi Hachikai
Age Range: Under_5
This classic Aesop fable has been beautifully brought to life by the gloriously vibrant water-colour illustrations of Ayano Imai.
Country Mouse and Town Mouse are the best of friends. Country Mouse invites his friend to stay with him in the country but Town Mouse is not impressed by Country Mouse’s food of nuts and berries. Town Mouse persuades him to go back to the town with him where a magnificent feast of food awaits – cakes, jellies and the most wonderful cheese – but there is also danger lurking around every corner!
Finally Country Mouse decides that town life is not for him as he prefers the peace and tranquillity of the countryside. The moral of the fable being that poverty with security is better than plenty in the midst of fear and uncertainty.
Originally retold in Japanese by Mimi Hachikai in 2009 this story has been translated into English by Minedtion.
