Zou and the Box of Kisses
by Michel Guy
Age Range: Under_5
Zou is preparing to go to a school holiday camp. As the time gets nearer for him to leave his parents he is suddenly not so sure he wants to go after all. His parents have come up with the perfect solution – a box of kisses so that whenever Zou feels sad or a bit lonely he can use one to make him feel better. There is exactly enough for each day with a few spare just in case they are needed. As Zou discovers the box of kisses comes in surprisingly useful on the train journey with the other zebras.
This is another endearing story about Zou by the French author/illustrator Michel Gay. The illustrations are both captivating and adorable and young readers cannot fail to fall in love with Zou.
Many children (and parents) will identify with Zou’s first trip away from home. It deals with the anxiety of separation with a gentle humour through the illustrations. Zou is able to forget his own fear and sadness when he is able to offer comfort, particularly to the younger zebras. He also discovers that he can cope on his own after all as well as making lots of new friends on his first trip away from home.
