Operation Ocean Emerald (Luke Baron Adventures)
by Ilkka Remes
Age Range: 14+
Fourteen- year-old Luke Baron unwittingly finds himself trapped on the Ocean Emerald, a floating luxury cruise liner carrying 1,000 wealthy passengers, when he tries to return a lost passport to its owner. Little does he know that the passport belongs to a member of a criminal gang. The scary but beautiful Juliette du Pont and her sinister partner Philippe Delacroix are planning to hijack the ship and have placed bombs strategically around the decks. When Luke accidentally stumbles across their plan the plotters are none too anxious for him to return to shore.
Luke is a courageous and inquisitive boy who becomes embroiled in a battle of wits with the gang. His English father Peter Baron works for Europol and Luke has to find a way to get in touch with him and alert him to the terrible danger than the Ocean Emerald faces. As the ship sails across the stormy Baltic Sea will Luke be able to escape and save the terrified passengers around him?
Finnish author, Ilkka Reme’s novel is an action-packed thriller that skips along. The Luke Baron adventures are popular in Finland and will definitely appeal to boys who like action and fast-paced stories dealing with topical issues, but this is also a book that readers of all ages can enjoy too. Look out for the second ‘Luke Baron’ adventure published in English - Operation Black Cobra.
